In memory of Harry DeGroot

Dear members,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of Harry DeGroot’s passing overnight Saturday at his home in Trafalgar. Harry had been unwell of late, but he continued to enjoy our Breakfast Club gatherings and had recently returned from a Mercedes Club 4-day event into NSW with his son who drove one of Harry’s beloved Benzes.

Funeral details will be forwarded on when available. Sincere condolences to Harry’s family and friends. He will be sorely missed.

Steve

Lorraine and I first met Harry and Anne on the RACV Fly the Flag Tour 2008 becoming firm friends over 9 tours we completed with them. The friendship was only strengthened when they moved to Trafalgar and joined GSCCR. Harry’s knowledge of all thing “Mercedes” was amazing, he had probably forgotten more about the marque than I’ve ever known! We were fortunate to attend Harry’s 80th birthday celebration and their 60th Wedding anniversary. Harry was a thorough gentleman and a good friend. We will miss his smiling face and conversation over a club night meal.

This is such sad news. Harry was the embodiment of the GSCCR, a passionate car enthusiast (especially his beloved Mercedes Benz) who warmly shared his passion with fellow club members. Harry was a dear friend who will be sadly missed.

Yes, I remember how well Harry was liked by many, many people on various “Fly the Flag” Rallies when I was involved & running them with the ABCCC.
Since coming to Gippsland, I have chatted with him, but now regretfully should have chatted & told him much more! … RIP Harry. You are well remembered.

  15. John Fowler says:

Harry was one of those likable and easy to talk to folk who not only had a huge amount of Mercedes expertise and knowledge, but was always interested in what you were doing.
Both he and Ann (when she was still with us) enthusiastically came to most of our events over the years, and really enjoyed the Mid Week Runs, Dinner Meetings, Breakfast Club displays, and the tours. He was a real ‘Gentleman’ and great to talk to, and will be sadly missed by all.
