APRIL MONTHLY MEETING – DAIZIES, Thursday 11th April

A good crowd attended our April meeting which was admirably presided over by our Vice-Pres, Graeme Hollingsworth whist Mark enjoyed a Bugatti weekend in South Australia.
Graham Longmore had brought along his most recent acquisition, this 1972 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV as our display car (although apparently it?s really Marg?s car), and was able to fill us in on a bit of the car?s history and his impressions as an owner.
This is the Longmore?s second Alfa GTV, they having owned one previously in the 1980s, but ever since then, there has been a hankering to one day find and purchase another of these beautiful little Italian coupes. Graham found this one advertised for sale in Adelaide. He spoke to the owner who then put him in contact with the vehicle?s restorer who had done a complete and thorough restoration of the car back in 2001. That may seem a while ago; but the car had covered only 5000 miles since then and is still in pristine condition. Graham flew over to Adelaide, met the owner at the airport, visited the restorer and drove the car 900km home without the boot-full of tools and spare parts that one would usually carry in a 40 year-old Italian sports car that you hadn?t set eyes on. It made it home without any drama and is apparently a real joy to drive.
