AUSTRALIA DAY MYSTERY RUN ? Sunday 25th January

OK, so it wasn?t actually on Australia Day – but close enough. The destination was, however, certainly a mystery until Glenn issued the participants with their route directions. Unfortunately we weren?t favoured with a morning suitable for top-down driving, so the sporting cars amongst us made use of their seldom-seen soft or hard tops to keep the occasional sprinkle at bay.

Participants were promised some interesting roads that we?d probably never driven before, and Glenn?s route through the back roads to Yarragon then on to Mirboo North via Yinnar and Boolara certainly lived up to those expectations. Those out front had a great time following each other through the twisty stuff and were surprised, but grateful, when on three occasions slower traffic we had caught up to, pulled over and let us pass.

A morning tea break in Mirboo North gave the cars and drivers a chance to recuperate before the shorter, less demanding drive to Meeniyan, via Dumbalk and Mardan. The written directions were quite simple, but several participants managed to find alternate routes and unfortunately missed the photo point on the Mardan-Dumbalk Rd. During this second stage of the event, participants were also asked to complete an Australiana Quiz on all things Aussie.

Lunch was at the wood-fired pizza restaurant in Meeniyan where we?d eaten on last year?s Australia Day run. The food was very nice and reasonably priced. Whilst we were waiting for our lunches, Glenn and Pam corrected all the Australia Quizes, eventually awarding the green and gold set of sweatbands as first prize to John and Kira Moore who scored 20 points out of a possible 28.

Many thanks to Glenn and Pam for organising this year?s event, which like several other annual runs on our calendar has become a tradition within our club.
