Occasionally, your editor cannot make it to the Sporting Register?s regular events, so it falls upon other individuals in the Club to write reports and take photographs for our website and monthly magazine. This month we are indebted to Ray Youlden for the photos and for filling me in on the morning?s happenings.
It was obviously a rather dismal morning weather-wise with unseasonable cool temperatures, occasional showers and an irritating drizzle which kept the sun veiled. Given the conditions, it was pleasing to see a reasonable turnout of up to fifty sporting and classic vehicles. Most of the convertibles made use of their ragtops, but those of sterner stuff made do with tonneau covers or in Graham Longmore?s case, a simple khaki tarp to cover the cockpit of his British Racing Green D-Type Jag.
An immaculate Datsun 1600 SSS made its debut appearance, as did a new mid-engined, Bolwell Nagari 300, the first we hope, of a new generation of sporting vehicles from this iconic Australian manufacturer. Some brave individual rode his classic Triumph Bonneville to our gathering and it was great to see vintage vehicles like the Darracq and Lancia Lambda defying the conditions as well – a far throw from the comfortable opulence experienced by the owners of the later model Jaguars and Mercedes Benz models on display.
