A drizzly, cold Sunday morning in Warragul came as no surprise to local residents, but those who ventured from further afield brought stories of fine sunny conditions which only deteriorated on the approach to our fair town. That explains why several sports car drivers arrived with tops down and anxiously waited for the conditions to improve. It also explains why several local participants elected to bring their closed cars along instead of the more usual roadsters.
Despite the weather, there were well over 40 classic and sporting vehicles present, including a couple of debut appearances. Back from her outback adventure in a ?shitbox? ?Commodore, Jane Vollebregt was delighted to drive her 2005 model MGTF (with hardtop) over from Phillip Island and Ian Murray showed off his ?new? 25 year-old BMW convertible with 6 cylinder engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. There was also an early model Bedford tray truck that I didn?t recognise and a very tidy red?XJS Jaguar with round headlights rather than the more common rectangularish units. Apparently Jaguars were the most popular marque this month with more examples on display than any other make. It?s not often we find a Rolls Royce ?in our midst, but on this occasion there were two of the same model and parked right?next to each other. We were also visited by a couple of modified street rods ? an early Falcon GT with a full length bonnet scoop, and a pink V8 Cortina with severely limited forward vision !
The weather gradually improved and people began to mingle around the cars instead of sheltering under the shop verandas. It was another great Sunday morning gathering and an indication of the strength of this monthly event which never fails to attract a hoard of fabulous machinery despite the Warragul weather.
