JULY BREAKFAST CLUB – Warragul CBD, Sunday 14th July

The weather gods weren?t smiling on us this month, the roads were wet from overnight rain and intermittent drizzle kept them that way during the morning, as well as giving the cars on display a spot-free rinse. However, despite the dismal conditions more than 40 classic and sporting vehicles made the journey into Warragul for our regular gathering. We had members from Leongatha, Meeniyan, Traralgon and the Neerim district, as well as visitors from the local area and as far away as Melbourne. Several hardy sports car folk motored in roofless, but soon erected tonneau covers to keep their cars from turning into mobile bathtubs.
Several ?new? cars made an appearance this month, these included our President?s recently purchased series 1 Lotus Elise, a Toyota Supra, an early Monaro GTS, a late model 911 Porsche convertible, a HSV Commodore and recent V8 Jaguar coupe. The usual range of thoroughbred sports cars, coupes and muscle cars were also present as well as several road registered competition cars.? One of these was your editor?s Fiat 124 Coupe tarmac rally car, there was also a rare V6-engined Renault Alpine that is a regular at hillclimb events and Ian Holdsworth?s turbo RX7 displaying it?s new water-cooled intercooler.? Along with the cars we often have the odd motorcycle or classic truck join our gathering, but in place of them this month, Peter Walker from Mirboo Nth pulled from the boot of his Ford Capri what must be the world?s smallest outboard boat motor. The upper section contains the fuel tank, a tiny carburettor and coil, the points are halfway down the brass casing and a single two-stroke piston lives at the bottom of the casing with its crank directly driving the small variable pitch propeller.? An incredible piece of engineering and no doubt useful if you have a very tiny boat on a very still lake.
Come along next month to see what turns up ? there?s always something to interest everyone.
