The last run for 2014, organised by John and Jan Fowler, was on Wednesday the 10th, yes a Wednesday this month, allowing some who may not be able to do a Thursday or whatever day, to partake in this popular event. As always, John had well prepared trip notes to present to each participant and a drivers’ briefing, so we had no (or little) excuse to become lost!!
After gathering at the Stump Tea Room at Darnum and topping up our tanks and tummies, plus the above briefing and discussing tops-up or tops-down, it was on our way north that we proceeded.
Starters this month were our fearless leaders Jan driving and John Fowler in the MX5, topless Bill and Judy Aitken in Bill’s Christmas present (about 8 yrs ago) the A90 Austin, Harry and Anne De Groot in the Benz Roundie (with armstrong steering), Bruce Bluett in the immaculately presented Mustang, Gus and Sue Luke in the topless MGA, Ian Maud in the racy Toyota Coupe, a late entry was Ian McColl topless in the TR3A and I was on my own (Ladies Golf day at Traf on Wednesdays) topless in the Mustang. John’s planned route was north from Darnum, Shady Creek, Araluen Road, Old Sale Rd, numerous others, then south to Nilma, across the highway to Bona Vista, Bull Swamp Rd in around Yarragon, back to Hazeldean Rd, then a bee-line to the Stump Tea Rooms. Seems Jan decided she “had to go” and John had no say in it.
The area we have to “explore” around here is unbelievable, and everyone thoroughly enjoys the pleasant tours we can indulge in, so long as we keep an eye out for the slow moving and overloaded agricultural equipment we must share our roads with, and the numerous road works being undertaken in the area. An enjoyable lunch was had at the Stump together with a chat before we headed home under a light shower of rain, all still topless. A big thanks to John and Jan for 2014 and we look forward to more in 2015.
