MONTHLY DINNER MEETING, Drouin Country Club – Thursday 17th March

Our last meeting before daylight-saving ended was a fairly quiet affair with only 36 attendees on the night. We had a nice display of sports and classic cars parked on the road in front of the function centre and the meal was quite good. Mike had arranged for Russell McKinnon of Drouin to bring his 1976 Torana V8 SS hatchback along as our indoor display car and Maudy ran the show in his usual smooth, eloquent style. Where were you all?

Russell?s hatchback seems to have had a chequered past. It was stolen and subsequently recovered, but it now carries a Victoria Police ID number. Russell purchased it about 18 years ago from a young bloke in Blackburn who was a painter (the house type, not an artist), it was a genuine SS, but the 253ci V8 and automatic gearbox had been replaced with a 308ci V8 and manual transmission together with a later model rear axle assembly. The exterior had been well maintained, but the interior needed a full rebuild., which Russell undertook.

The car doesn?t get driven much, although Russell admits that it?s not bad to drive. He does miss the air-conditioning and power steering though.
