MUSTER on the HILL, Bryant Park (Haunted Hills) – Sunday 8th December

It was good to see a healthy number of Sporting Register members taking up the invitation from the Gippsland Car Club to attend their Muster last Sunday. The idea was to validate their members’ Club Plated vehicles through a show and shine activity, but at the same time promoting the venue to those who may not yet? have had the chance to experience it. Our members participated in the display, but also had the opportunity to drive laps around the circuit at non-competitive speeds. It was also an opportunity to share the experience with passengers or swap cars around. The circuit is about 1400 metres in length, has quite a change in elevation and a few tricky corners thrown in as well. We used the clockwise format; but the circuit can be used in a number of different formats including a figure eight. Graham Longmore, looking like Jim Clark in a 1950’s race helmet, brought along his D-type and put in a couple of laps. Mike Whitford circulated in the Fiat Dino before lending it to your editor who unfortunately retired it with a ruptured heater hose. John Althuizen gave his Ferrari its first run around the track as did Paul Dowell in his 1932 Chev tourer. We also saw several of our club’s MGs on the track including John Moore’s MGBGT V8 and Sandra Goddard’s MGB roadster.

The Gippsland Car Club put on a BBQ lunch for those present and had their impressive Clubrooms open for inspection. We thank them for their invitation and hospitality.
