The Sporting Register?s season of Open Garages began this year with a cracker of a day at Graham and Marg Longmore?s home and garden at Tyers.? Graham?s cascading garages house his magnificent collection of classic cars as well as assorted tools, equipment and spare parts. The main garage which is? tastefully decorated with historic posters and Graham?s own photographic artwork, was set up with the Devaux project car elevated on the hoist showing Graham?s meticulous attention to detail in combining the modified Riley chassis with Jaguar mechanicals. The Devaux was flanked by Graham?s Aston Martin DBS and D-type Jaguar, whilst the XK120 and Cooper S took second and third billing further up the hill.
Marg had the gardens in superb condition despite the season and rough weather of the previous week. The landscaped, brick forecourt accommodating their Alfa GTV, was kitted out with tables, chairs and sun umbrellas for alfresco dining, which Marg catered for with hotdogs, cocktail franks, chips, homemade lamingtons and slices.
We were blessed with fine and sunny weather, just perfect for bringing the roadsters out for a run. Those who were hoping to see a broad range of classic sports cars were not disappointed, both sides of the road outside their hill-side property were lined with classic and sporting cars from several invited clubs and friends which attracted almost as many admirer?s as the garage display.
Mark McKibbin on behalf the Sporting Register, presented Graham and Marg with a plaque in appreciation for their efforts and hospitality in hosting another amazing event at their home this year. We?re always looking for new garages to visit so if you?d like to open your garage to the Club one Sunday morning, contact a Committee member to find a suitable date.
