So it was that Dad & Dave Racing had what may turn out to be the one and only run together this year at RACES Sprints at the East Sale RAAF base. ? We left Warragul in forecast drizzle, but happily the road was dry east of Trafalgar, and remained that way all day – even getting a touch sunburnt as the day went on.?Five members of the GSCCR had entered the meeting; Peter Thomson, Craig and Sharon O?Connell, David Richards and yours truly. Peter Thomson was driving his V8-powered Torana Hatch and recorded a best time of 1.02.9 before the car cried enough, sounding like it was running on considerably less than eight cylinders. I hope it is only a minor problem Peter. ? Craig O?Connell was running in a fresh engine in his newly acquired Nissan Turbo powered Ford Escort Sports Sedan. This thing is a real weapon and will be a force to be reckoned with when Craig really comes to grips with it and can use all of its considerable power. ? Sharon O?Connell was driving her VN Commodore Saloon Car, which much to Sharon?s disappointment experienced gear selection problems. ? David and I ran the Datto 120Y and as always enjoyed our Father/ Son tussle, David trying to knock off the old man, while I am trying to prove I still have it. ? The practice at Sale is that they organise 5 runs and all competitors participate in 4 of those runs, all competitors are then rostered on to do flagging duties at various corners on the other one of those runs during the day. This solves the club?s problem of supplying corner marshals, but as drivers it is also very interesting to observe some driving styles and braking points from fairly close quarters. ?
