BREAKFAST CLUB, Warragul CBD – Sunday 10th March

Although this particular Sunday coincided with the Phillip Island Classic race meeting, a 60’s car display at the Maffra Shed and the Motorfest Event at Lardner Park; we still had a very good turnout at the breakfast gathering. Des Dillon (Bentley), Mark McKibbin (Darracq ) and John Crawford (Amilcar) reprecented the open-top prewar brigade; but there were plenty of convertible Triumphs, MGs and Austin Healeys from the 50s, 60’s and 70’s as well.
The warm weather brought many Mercedes coupes and sedans out for a run, with Harry DeGroot’s magnificent black 50’s sedan looking very regal flying the RACV flag from the front guard. Harry and Anne, together with Allan and Lorraine Richards (MG Midget) will be participating in the RACV Fly the Flag Tour through northern Victoria and southern New South Wales next week.
There were also a selection of very tidy Mustangs on display and the huge Chrysler Saratoga owned by Richard Rowley. A hard-topped MX5 and Lachy Fowler’s 240Z were the only Japanese classics on show this month, but there were several new cars making an appearance such as the late model Mercedes and Alfa coupes, a Ford Hot Rod and Triumph Stag.
Aussie muscle in the shape of an SS V8 Torana hatchback, a pair of Falcon GTs and a couple of Monaros were crowd favourites, as were the two CooperSs that had parked together.
