With Aussie flags whipping around in the slipstream and a fluffy Koala holding tight to a spoke of the steering wheel, the editorial Spider leap-frogged its way ahead of the pack, consisting of about 15 vehicles, to find suitable vantage points en-route for some action photos. The roads that Glenn had chosen for our annual Australia Day run twisted and turned their way from Trafalgar to Childers and on to Mirboo North for morning tea. Then, after the break, it was off to Meeniyan for lunch via Boolarra and Dunbalk. Lots of hills and green pastures, forests and gullies were passed through as we enjoyed the almost empty roads on a beautiful summer?s day. The range of vehicles in our contingent was quite impressive and drew some attention at our stops as well as on the road. The Presidential pre-war Bugatti had no trouble keeping in contact with the ?spirited driving? group, consisting of several MGs, MX5s and Minis positioned at the front of the field. The ?touring ensemble? weren?t that far behind either with the Cobbledick X6 and the Longmore Aston Martin enjoying the route in a more relaxed fashion.
Lunch was at a relatively new, wood-fired Pizza Restaurant in Meeniyan which catered well with our crowd of about 26 people in their outside dining area at the rear of the building. During lunch, Glenn announced the results of the 20-question Australiana Trivia Quiz which participants completed en-route. Graham and Marg Longmore, Ken and Bev Purcell, Mark McKibbin and your editor all tied for first place with a score of 16/20 and received and Aussie flag emblazoned stubby holder as prizes.
