Perhaps it was the likelihood of getting the classics a bit grubby, or maybe it was just the weather which although fine and relatively dry, was pretty cool with the threat of more showers forecast. Whatever it was, numbers at this year?s event (at least in the morning) were certainly well down on previous year’s. The swap meet was also noticeably smaller with only about half the number of stands anticipated.
There were however, static engine displays, old tractors, speedway cars, hot rods, modified cars and classic trucks and cars from all eras on display. In the pavilion were trade stalls and just outside it, a collection of classic caravans for those with a hankering to drive slowly.
The Sporting Register had an area reserved at the top of the hill, near the kiddie rides and food vendors, which we filled to overflowing with about 16 members? vehicles on display. Added to that was Eric Irvine?s Fiat 124 Spider which was inside the pavilion on his Automotive Art stall, and Bruce Bluett?s beautifully restored, red Dodge tray truck which was parked in the truck area. The restored trucks always fascinate me, it?s one thing to restore a small sports car, but the sheer size of some of the trucks on display puts them into an entirely different league.
Thankyou to all of our club members who supported the event this year, our cars certainly attracted? attention and showed the Club in a favourable light.
