Thursday 14th November – CLUB MEETING, Drouin Golf Club

About 60 club members and guests attended our November meeting at the Drouin Golf Club for the usual two-course dinner as well as the chance to catch up on what?s been happening around the traps. In the absence of our president who was away on a vintage car rally, past President Glenn Campbell steered us efficiently through the usual meeting schedule concluding by handing over to Allan Richards who introduced his brother Harvey and his magnificently restored? 1968 Fiat 124 AC Coupe.

Harvey?s AC is the latest in a string of sporting cars that he has had the pleasure of owning. They include an Alfa Spider, Bugeye Sprite and a 350SL Mercedes. The Fiat was bought about 4 years ago for $2000 as a potential father and son project. Harvey soon paid out his son?s share and went about a full bare-metal restoration which included red leather trim and a few mechanical updates from the later CC Coupe which had a larger engine, dual circuit brakes and seats fitted with headrests. On the Coupe?s first outing at this year?s Fiat Autobella Concourse, it was awarded the prestigious Best Coupe trophy. We thank Harvey for driving the beautifully presented coupe down from Melbourne in the rain to be at our dinner this month.

Our thanks also go to Lorraine Richards who, as an alternative to the usual car ?Show and Tell?, introduced folks to the dark secrets of cake decorating. It was mainly the ladies who choose this option and all were intrigued as Lorraine rolled, pressed, pricked and pinched patterns and trim onto a Christmas cake baked and provided by Jan Fowler. The cake will be consumed by our members at the annual Christmas BBQ at Kevin Riley?s place on the 8th of December.
