AUGUST MONTHLY MEETING at DAIZIES, Thursday 8th August

Another bumper crowd supported our monthly meeting and enjoyed a roast dinner at Daizies this month. Along with the usual banter about past and coming events, the 6-Hour Relay Team managers summed up their teams’ results from last weekend and made some tongue-in-cheek awards to deserving team members 🙂 .
Our display car was Gavan Budge’s 2009 Lotus Europa S which just squeezed through the doors with its mirrors folded back. Only 465 examples of these models were built, 26 of them coming to Australia, the rest being sold in the UK and Europe. Like the Elise, on which the Europa is loosely based, ?the Europa has a lightweight bonded aluminium chassis together with a composite fibre bodyshell.?The Europa S is more “relaxed” than the Elise with a larger boot, greater soundproofing, and easier cabin access due to the lower chassis sides, and higher roof line. It also includes luxuries such as air conditioning, a sound system, leather interior, and plush carpeting as standard. The Lotus weighs in at a lightweight 995 kg and is propelled by a mid-engine, 2-Litre turbo EcoTech motor from GM. Gavan’s car has been upgraded to SE specifications which delivers 185 kw and 300 Nm of torque to give sparkling performance of 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and 0-160 km/h in 13.8 seconds. ?It’s also quite economical at about 30 mpg.
According to its owner, the Europa is easy and fun to drive and quite comfortable for touring long distances. It’s also great fun to drive around a race track and Gavan’s taking it to Sandown soon for a bit more track time.
