CHRISTMAS BREAKUP & FUNKHANA, Sunday 30th November – Newborough

November 30th was our Christmas break up fun khana, the last to be held at Kevin Riley?s as the property has now been sold.
Numbers were down on past years as there were a number of other events on. Notably the Geelong Revival Sprints at which our editor Steve Schmidt (Mini Marcos GT ) and Mike Whitford (BMW 635) were competing.
Competing cars at the funkhana were; David and Claire Richards (Mini), David Anderson (MGB V8), Phil and Jean Finger (Nissan Skyline), Eric Irvine (Fiat 124 Spyder), Jane Vollebregt (MGF), Lachy Fowler (Datsun 240Z), Alex Weymouth sharing Lachy?s Z, John Fowler (Eunos MX5) and Kevin Riley (Mercedes Sports) .
Murray Campbell (BMW) and Alan & Frances Oakes also competed but did not complete all tests. It was quite a gutsy effort for Fran Oakes to hang out the window picking up flags as Alan guided the little Hyundai around the course.
Drivers competed in three tests, the first being the ?Square Slalom? in which drivers were required to drive two laps around the course with the navigators picking up flags from the witches hats and the second lap to put them all back again.
Second test was the ?Serpentine? and lastly drivers had a chance to let it all hang out in the ?Tiger Moth?.
Results were John Fowler, Sandra Goddard and Alex Weymouth narrowly edging out Lachy Fowler in his own car.
A number of other club members attended for the social interaction but did not compete, they were; Harry & Ann De Groot (Mercedes 300D), Phil & Judy Barnard (Porsche Boxter and photographer), Brian Jolly (Chev Corvette), Graham Longmore (Range Rover) and Bob & Rhonda Russell (Chrysler 300 C). If I have missed you please accept my apologies.
Many thanks must go to Kevin Riley for allowing us to use his front lawn over the past few years. If you have a suitable property and don?t mind it being torn up slightly by a number of classic cars once a year, we would love to hear from you.
