HAZELWOOD CAR & BIKE SHOW – Sunday 28th October

A group of 13 classics left Yarragon at 9.30 in cold overcast weather. There were 3 Fords ? 2 Mustangs and a GT, 3 Mercedes Benz?s, a Datsun 240z and a Mini, with 5 soft-tops ? an MGA, aTR6, a Porsche, a Honda s2000, and a Sprite.? We travelled along the freeway then up Sunny Creek Rd Trafalgar to Childers. What a marvellous windy road with great scenery it is, and from there we travelled down into Thorpdale and turned right towards Mirboo North. The open winding downhill run from the top of the Thorpdale hills to the Morwell / Mirboo Nth tee junction is another exhilarating driving experience, and from there we travelled into Mirboo North and stopped at the Dalliance Chocolaterie & Providore, for Coffee and cake (& chocolates?). The weather had started to improve so it was nicer with the roof off! After about a half hour break we then set off to Boolarra along the winding ridge road with some more great scenery, and then on to Churchill and Gaskin Park by about 11.15am.
There were spectator cars parked everywhere ? seemed like many hundreds (including some we recognised from our club), and the Show cars dominated the inside Bitumen car park, with food, other stalls and entertainment nearby. The non-judged classics were parked around the outer edge of the oval, and we were sent over to the far side to park as a group in the last dry spot available ? and we just fitted in. (Much of the outer area was still wet and ?spongy?). The weather was by now quite warm, and it was short sleeves and wide hats sunny weather – great for spectators.
There was an enormous number of classic cars parked around the total area, with the vast majority of these being Aussie ? made, with a lot of modified and hot-rodded cars amongst them all with very high quality finishes. There were also many highly restored original type vehicles which received huge attention too.
Seven of our members went directly there and soon found us. After we wandered around admiring the cars, had a drink and a bite to eat, our group then slowly drifted off from about 1.30. I am sure that the organisers ? The Pistons Club of Morwell – would have been extremely happy with the huge attendance with the proceeds going to charity.
